It was 5:30am. The Sydney sky was dark...still recovering from the night's downpour.

I rose, sad and excited. Sad as today was my last day in Australia. No more Koalas, symphonies at the Opera House, solitary walks along deserted beaches, nor good Aussie company.

Excited, because my journey home was beginning.

Martin Place Subway Station was minuted from my hotel. Soon I was on a train to Rockdale, a suburb south of Bondi Junction. There a good friend would take me to the Sydney International Airport, and hopefully we would have time for one last cup of tea before boarding.

Not understanding the crackling announcements over the speakers, and thinking I had 4 stops to go, when the train with me in it, pulled out of the Rockdale station, all I could think was, "How typical this is of the way I travel...:^)"

I hopped off at the next stop, popped over to Platform One and was headed back to Rockdale in minutes.

In my youth, I never made allowances for misadventures and delays. I spent my time rushing everywhere in a state of panic. I am not sure when it was, but I realized one day that it was okay to arrive early, and if by chance, like today, I took a wrong turn, or missed my stop, well...no worries, mate!

At 9am, Thursday morning, my flight took off.

As we passed over Fiji, I thought of the times I had been there decades earlier and the fun I had on their beautiful beaches.

Soon the sun set.

Halfway to Vancouver, we landed on a dark Hawaiian island. For the second time, I went thru customs. It would be the day's habit.

Back in the air, the sky turned rose as I watched the sun rise.

Vancouver's rugged mountains greeted us, as we arrived at 7:30am. It was still Thursday. Canadian Customs this time.

That was as close as I got to home.

I am speaking at another IMC Bootcamp. This time in Atlanta, Georgia. My next flight, in three hours, goes to Toronto, Ontario. There I cannect to a flight to the US.

Joining me in Vancouver are Jim and Sumeet. It is nice to have the company. I call my darling, Marion, but after 24 hours and no sleep, I am not too coherent. She laughs at my attempts to speak English, and since I can't speak any other language we aggree to talk after I get some sleep.

Another line up. Another flight.

In Toronto, we discover we have to take a bus to another terminal. We go thru my fourth set of customs. It always looks like we have lots of time between flights, but we are always rushing to catch the next plane.

A quick stop to pick up a couple sandwiches, then we jump on a second bus to head over to yet another terminal where our plane awaits. I am glad we grabbed the food, because the 'cupboards' in this terminal are bare, and we are starving.

The flight was supposed to land at 10:30pm local time (I have no idea what time it is in Australia right now), but they have us in a holding pattern.

We land at 11:15pm.

Now we have to find our luggage. last time we were here our luggage arrived 12 hours after we did. Fingers are crossed.

After being couped up in planes all day, when given a choice between walking to the baggage and taking a train, I push for the walk. Who knew the Atlanta airport was that big??

I look up at a clock. 12:01 -- Friday, at last!

Thursday lasted 35 hours.

As I thought about what this day was going to be like, and as I experienced it, I found I was faced with a choice.

I doubt anyone thinks spending 36 hours in planes, trains, buses, and airports is fun. It would be easy to complain, be grumpy, be a victim.

To get what you want in life, there is always a price.

The successful people pay the price.

My choice: Do I pay the price grudgingly or gratefully

I went to Australia. I met wonderful people. Saw awesome sights. I contributed to the future success of hundreds of people. Now I am gong to Atlanta to do the same thing.

I am doing what I love to do.

I paid the price and I will continue to pay it -- gratefully.

What about you?

Keep Blogging and Podcasting!

Scott Paton
Dean of Blogonomics and Podology

Keep Blogger from Deleting Your Blog

I received this comment about Blogging:

"A few weeks back I set up my blog on blogger to post a comment to your blog. Done.

"Then I started building the blog, customizing it and so on - adding my own content and a few links to my websites and an affiliate link or two (one specifically to IMC).

"Within a week my blog was blocked by blogger - they said it seemed like an automated spam blog. I wrote to them and ensured I'm a real person - it's not a robot posting here.... Without any word, they deleted my blog.

"I followed the techniques you specified in your lecture pretty much to a tee (like the ebook pro example).

"Perhaps it was just a hardware/software problem on blogger's side or perhaps it was because I built it to fast with too many posts too fast.....as you can see I'm only guessing.

"Do you have any insights?

"OH and the BIG THING - one of the sites that I linked to from within the blog was also taken off Google. It had several listings appearing on the first page for certain keywords and now it's gone. Adios, bye-bye!

Do you have any advice Mr. Dean of Blogonomics?

Thanks Scott - I hope you can reply to this post."

Ouch! That doesn't sound good.

One of the intersting trends that I have noticed over the past year is this: Automated Blog creation and posting. There has been a number of programs that will mkae automatically 1,000's of blogs in seconds and fill them up with spam links and spam content.

Blogger has been particularly hard hit by this.

So their reaction has been wholesale deletion of blogs that they deem to be 'splogs' (Spam Blogs).

How to avoid this?

Post no more than three times a day.
Vary the length of your posts
Do not look like you are only promoting your own stuff
Link to outside, relevant sites.

Regarding the site that was taken off Google, it is unlikely that it was directly related to linking from your blog. If this was the case, then if you wanted to blacklist your competition, all you would have to do is make a splog and link to them. Then Google would remove their site and you would move up.

It is possible they took another look at the site and decided it was not what they wanted in their database. I don't know as I have never seen it.

Keep Blogging!
Scott Paton
Dean of Blogonomics and Podology

How to go from zero to a half million in one year

Last time I mentioned that one of the biggest names in Internet Marketing was doind a weekly podcast with me. Well, we did our second one this week and I was going to announce it today, but...

I actually have something I am even more proud of that I wanted to share with you.

The Internet Marketing Center publishes a monthly newsletter featuring online success stories.

It is called 'Secrets to Their Success' (STTS) and you can take a peek at
http://www.secretstotheirsuccess.com/.

One of my cliets is featured in this month STTS article. He shares his key strategies to successfully grow his business from almost nothing to more than $500,000 in less than a year! Needless to say, I am extremely proud of Mark and Jon. They worked hard and have amazing results.

You have to be a member to read the feature on them, but I strongly recommend STTS as 'must reading' for anyone who seriously wants to have a successful online business.

http://www.secretstotheirsuccess.com/

Until next time, keep blogging!
